Study 14: High-performance refrigeration in industry
Market study
·
2021
Following on from the 2019 ALLICE Technologies report on the state of the art (advances and alternatives) in refrigeration, the objectives of this study are:
- To identify industrial sectors and applications suitable for the deployment of high-performance cooling solutions (absorption or adsorption refrigeration systems that enable cooling through the recovery of waste heat)
- To assess the development opportunities offered by high-performance technologies, the technical barriers to be overcome and the economic prospects (existing solution providers, potential grants, etc.). The technologies covered by the study are absorption refrigeration machines (LiBr/H₂O and H₂O/NH₃) and adsorption refrigeration machines (NH₃, H₂O).
- To provide a detailed case study on the production of cooling in the food industry using an adsorption machine that utilises waste heat from a dairy, which has been identified as particularly relevant and could form the basis of a future demonstration project at an industrial site.
- To open up opportunities for collaboration and the development of high-performance refrigeration solutions.
