ALLICE is taking part in Zero Carbon Industry in Antwerp
Zero Carbon Industry: An event to understand the challenges of industrial decarbonisation at European
level
Organised by the ECEEE (European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy), Zero Carbon Industry will take place on 30 and 31 January in Antwerp, Belgium.
The event takes place against a backdrop in which the EU has raised its ambitions for reducing industrial emissions through the ‘Green Deal’ plan. This plan is accompanied by the European Commission’s Net-Zero Industry Act and Critical Raw Materials Act. These complement the ‘Fit for 55’ package and REPowerEU to address current concerns regarding energy costs and security.
Zero Carbon Industry will present plenary sessions of a high technical standard, focusing on three key themes:
- Processes and technologies to meet future challenges
- Energy management and corporate culture
- The drivers of change
A total of more than 70 presentations are expected.
Our project coordination engineer, Léo Pasquier, will give a presentation on some of the key findings from the ALLICE study, ‘Decarbonisation of cooking and drying processes’. This study focuses on the decarbonisation of these two processes, for which various types of solutions are being examined: energy efficiency, electrification, and renewable and recovered energy.
The application cases studied are the drying and firing of tiles, the drying and curing of a powder coating line, and the kilning of barley malt.
This study shows that all of the solutions enable significant reductions in GHG emissions. To achieve further reductions in GHG emissions associated with certain processes or in specific cases, CCUS solutions (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage) may be necessary.
